Q. What is a Worm Farm Waste System?
A. It is one chamber which processes all sewerage, grey water and organic garbage using worms.

Q. What household detergents can I use?
A. As detergents are heavily diluted with water, normal cleaners are suitable. Undiluted bleach would be the only exception.

Natural Waste Processing

Q. What garbage can I put into the system?
A. All kitchen waste, newspapers, cardboard, weeds, anything that is biodegradable organic.

Q. What does the system look like?
A. Normally the chamber is below ground. On top you see a compost bin for garbage disposal and a 150mm vent pipe which protrudes into the air 4 metres. This vent pipe may be attached to the house.

Q. Is the system approved?
A. Yes.

Q. Will my Council allow me to install this system in my area?
A. Yes. However, on some sites extra design work may be required to meet local environmental issues.

Q. How do I go about getting a permit to install a system?
A. A & A Worm Farm Waste Systems apply to Council on your behalf for the permit. Any queries from Council are handled by us.

Sewerage and Grey Water waste processing

Q. Does the system smell like a septic system?
A. No. The only smell would be an earthy smell if you bent down over the garbage chute entry.

Q. Does the system require a lot of maintenance?
A. No. Virtually no maintenance. The system is designed to be self cleaning. In seven years we have never de-sludged one chamber.

Q. What are the service requirements and costs?
A. As part of our approval conditions, we conduct a service call at 6 months, 18 months and each subsequent 2 years.

Q. What does the system cost to run?
A. If your site is hilly, the cost is zero. If your site is flat, a small sump pump will switch on for 60 seconds only when required. This is equivalent to switching on a 100 watt light globe for 60 seconds. If you have a holiday house or you are away on holidays, running costs are also zero when the system is not in use.

Q. What happens if I go away for extended periods of time?
A. These systems are ideal for situations such as holiday houses etc or if you take an extended holiday. The worm population will survive very well with periodic use. Worm eggs lay dormant if the system is not used for extended periods. They hatch once the system is used again.

Q. What happens if I hold a large function?
A. The system has a huge capacity. As there are no mechanical moving parts it cannot be over loaded.
